Vinod Dansari, CEO of Royal Enfield has confirmed that the Chennai plant is actively developing an electric prototype. In spite of the reduced sales volumes, the company has earmarked an investment of Rs 700 crores for manufacturing both the regular and electric motorcycles in the coming years. As this investment was for the development of better platforms, it will go towards the making of the electric bike.
The shift towards the manufacture of electric bikes is going to be the order of the day. One of the most significant examples is the introduction of Harley Davidson LiveWire. Though it was a shock announcement, the electric version will soon become a popular option.
