  • Royal Enfield could launch an e-bike very soon in the Indian market.

  • The company is actively developing the project of manufacturing an electric bike.

  • An investment of Rs 700 Crores has been announced for the project.

Owning a Royal Enfield bike is a matter of pride and prestige. With all auto manufacturers shifting their focus to manufacturing electric vehicles, Royal Enfield has announced the development of an electric motorcycle that could launch in the coming years.

Vinod Dansari, CEO of Royal Enfield has confirmed that the Chennai plant is actively developing an electric prototype. In spite of the reduced sales volumes, the company has earmarked an investment of Rs 700 crores for manufacturing both the regular and electric motorcycles in the coming years. As this investment was for the development of better platforms, it will go towards the making of the electric bike.

The shift towards the manufacture of electric bikes is going to be the order of the day. One of the most significant examples is the introduction of Harley Davidson LiveWire. Though it was a shock announcement, the electric version will soon become a popular option.

The debate between Electric Vehicle fanatics and the Internal Combustion Engine enthusiasts will continue. However, electric vehicles have come to stay. India might not have as responsive a market as the US has today. It is because we do not have the necessary supporting infrastructure.

Royal Enfield is one of the most popular bikes in India. Even today, the classic original versions of British origin have an excellent resale value in the market. Thus, there is an initial shock over the announcement of the development of an e-Bike. However, it will not take time to stamp its imprint on the minds of RE enthusiasts in the country.

The Royal Enfield electric bike could launch in India in the coming years. Watch this space for further announcements in this regard.
