The recent fury of flood in the state of ‘Uttarkhand’ has horrified the whole country. The whole nation is a witness to the death and destruction caused by the rains, cloudburst and the rising waters of the rivers in the state which is famous for its scenic beauty and its places of pilgrimage. However, the sight of people who are stranded on the remote corners of mountains and inaccessible valleys has touched the heart of all Indians and they are going all out to contribute to the rescue efforts in big or small ways. The maker of famous cars like Scorpio and Reva, Mahindra and Mahindra was the first auto manufacturing company in the country, who have announced that they are giving Rupees one Crore to the Relief Fund set up the Chief Minister of the state. The ‘chairman’ of the company said that this fund is specifically given to help the victims who are affected by flood, land slide and cloud burst.

Management of the Mahindra & Mahindra said that like the rest of the country they were also horrified and saddened by the destruction caused by the flood and land slides in Uttarkand and are pained by the plight of both ‘pilgrims’ as well as people of the state. They said they are moved by the appeal for help from the government of the state and the sum given is a ‘token’ reponse from Mahindra. They hopd that the money would provide some relief to the victims. Mahindra is the first Indian group of companies who are moved by the disaster in the state and have made a donation to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. As a general policy Mahindra and Mahindra group, which is mentioned ‘on the Forbes’ list of two thousand companies, believes in giving power to both village and rural areas and enhancing ‘business efficiency’. Their effort to step forward and help the people who need desperate help needs to be applauded.
