- The SUV spotted testing on the Indian roads
- SUV car S Presso may arrive in the market in October
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the S-Presso micro SUV in the festive season this year in the Indian market. But prior to the official launch, we bring you an exclusive sneak-peak into the SUV as it was spied as a test mule. First things first, Maruti S-Presso is the production-ready model of the Future S Concept which had its world premiere at the 2018 Auto Expo in February, while it is rumoured to be a successor to the company's most successful model till date, the Alto. Needless to say, it will be retailed through the regular Maruti Arena dealerships.
Going by the spy-shots, the S-Presso will have a SUVish stance with a bold front fascia. Being based on the lightweight Heartect architecture, It will flaunt a flat bonnet with higher ground clearance. Taking a leaf out of Renault Kwid's book, Maruti has tried to provide rugged and SUV-style appearance to the S-Presso. The micro-SUV is the second product after Vitara Brezza to have had its R&D in India. It has been designed and engineered specifically for the Indian market by the company's R&D team based in India. The interior will also be premium and come with several first-in-segment features. Though, we do not have any images or confirmation regarding the same. Maruti S-Presso will be a budget offering from the country's biggest automaker after a gap of 7 years.
Mechanically, the S-Presso will only be offered with a petrol engine. It will be powered by the BS-VI version of the 1.0L 3-cylinder K10B engine which will develop top power of 67bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 90Nm at 3500rpm. The engine will be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while a 5-speed AMT gearbox could also be introduced at a later stage. Maruti S-Presso will take on the likes of Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon and Datsun Redi-GO in the Indian market, while it is expected to be priced in a range of Rs 2.75-4.00 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Several reports have indicated that it will be launched by the last week of September while bookings are expected to be commenced in a few days at a token amount of Rs 11,000.
