India’s cab-hailing market is on the rise with new entrants challenging already established players like Ola and Uber. Jumping on the bandwagon, S3 Cabs recently launched in Mumbai. The S3 Cabs is offering driver focused services in terms of fees and other benefits. The S3 Cabs has been promoted by Mumbai-based mid-sized logistics player Bharat Freight Group. Media reports opine the company had already hired 700 drivers prior to its launch, most of which have already worked with Ola and Uber.

The talking point of the S3 Cabs is its lucrative driver centric policy according to which the drivers are not charged for the first INR 1800 collection every day. Moreover, the drivers will have to pay a 10% charge only if the daily collection crosses the above mentioned mark. This is merely 50% of what Ola and Uber charge their drivers. Besides, there is no surge pricing and pooling services.

The owner of the S3 Cabs, Sohel Kazani (director, Sahayadri Smart Safe) has invested INR 1 Crore in developing the app. To Sohel, the S3 Cab is a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and he received support from 10 transport or cab unions before he ventured into this segment.

The company also plans to double up cabbies as delivery boys to etailers and roll out an app for small delivery trucks acting as couriers for e-tailers. It plans to focus on cash-on-delivery mode because the service fee is charged on the value of the cargo.

While it currently has over 1000 cabbies, the company is aiming to increase the number to 4000 by July. Several associations have tried to carve a niche in the segment earlier, though many have failed, hopefully the newly launched S3 Cabs will receive acceptance from the people of Mumbai.
