We have got an exclusive insight from our source working for a company's owned showroom that Tata Motors will launch the second-generation Safari Storme SUV in the coming second week of April, somewhere around 9th April, 2015. The Safari Storme facelift will come as a wake up call for Tata after Mahindra launched the all-new Scorpio some time back.
We were also told that the Safari Storme facelift will feature a music system from Harman Kardon with steering mounted controls and automatic climate control. The new Storme has been spied testing a couple of times now and for what it seems, the exteriors will get only a subtle change like a Range Rover Evoque inspired honeycomb grille in front.
Apart from the subtle exterior changes and major interior overhaul, Tata is working towards bringing a more powerful version of the existing 2.2 litre VARICOR diesel engine. The VARICOR 400 engine, as suggested by a badge in the spy shots was first showcased with the Hexa Concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month.
The 2.2 litre motor is capable to produce 156ps of power and 400 Nm of torque and that is why Varicor400 badge. While the transmission duties will performed by a 5-speed manual gearbox, a new 6-speed automatic gearbox is also expected. While the new Storme will be based on the Aria X2 platform, it is unlikely that it will lose any weight.
The current Storme sells at a price range of Rs 11-13 Lakh and the upcoming SUV will be launched at a minor premium and will rival both Mahindra Scorpio and XUV 500.
