Audi has started teasing the world with the all-new R8 sportscar as the company has released the first teaser of the keenly awaited supercar. New Audi R8 is expected to make its première at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. Surprisingly, before this official teaser, the Audi R8 supercar was fully revealed in couple of spy-shots. The latest iteration of the sports car would be underpinning Lamborghini Huracan’s platform.
The R8 sportscar would flaunt LED headlights as standard, while coming with Laser headlights can be ordered as optional feature. The German luxury automaker has been extremely tight-lipped regarding the details of the second-generation R8, but it believes that the mid-engined R8 will “set new standards among high-performance sports cars”. 2015 Audi R8 would, for the first time ever, come with an all-electric e-tron variant and it is expected to have a range in excess of 400 kilometres. It would be offered with only a dual-clutch gearbox, while the 6-speed manual transmission - seen on the current generation R8 - would not be available. The performance-based R8 would in-house Lamborghini Huracan's 5.2L, V10 engine, but the power and torque values are still unknown.
Each headlight contains one laser module that operates with four high?intensity laser diodes. This module bundles the four intense blue?light laser beams. Then a phosphor converter transforms the blue light into pure white light. An identifying characteristic of the laser headlights is their blue light signature. Standard equipment in the new R8 includes an LED headlight system. All lighting functions are produced with 37 LEDs per headlight. Audi India has already launched the R8 LMX in the country, which comes with laser lighting. It is the first Indian car to have laser lighting as standard in India, while BMW i8, which would be launched on Feb 18, would be the second car to support laser headlights. Audi R8 LMX was launched at Rs. 2.97 crores (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in January 2015.
