Skoda and parent Volkswagen plan to introduce a new premium SUV in the coming years. The new model will expand the Skoda portfolio as new model will be positioned above the Skoda's Yeti soft-roader and will be assembled at the company's plant situated in Czech Republic. However, the company has not shared any information further but the new SUV is rumored to be christened as Snowman.
The announcement was made at the occasion of 23rd anniversary of Skoda's acquisition by the Volkswagen Group, held at VW’s headquarters in Wolfsburg. The Czech PM, Bohuslav Sobotka also witnessed this event and said- “Skoda Auto is one of the gems of Czech industry with a significant impact on our overall economy. This is why I am very pleased that another model is going to be produced in the Czech Republic, which will result in the creation of new jobs and investments”.
Interestingly, a re-badged model of the new SUV with Seat logo is also anticipated to reach the market. The acquisition of Skoda by Volkswagen Group has increased the company's sales in last two decades, from 2,00,000 units a year to approximately 9,00,000 units now year on year basis. Presently, the company has been operating its business operations in more than 100 countries worldwide and competing in several segments with a portfolio consisting of seven models.
