Skoda India has rolled out the 1 Lakhth unit of Rapid sedan from Volkswagen Group production facility in Chakan, Pune. The 100,000th unit wore a Monte Carlo badge in a flash red colour. Skoda Rapid, being introduced in 2011 exclusively for the Indian market, marked the entry of the company in the C-segment of sedans. Skoda had launched the new Rapid in 2016 with new crystalline design language. It challenges the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Toyota Yaris in India.

Last year in July, the Volkswagen Group announced an investment of Rs 8000 Crores in India under the Skoda led ‘INDIA 2.0’ project.
In the start of this year in January, Skoda inaugurated a new technology centre in Pune to lay the foundation for the development of products based on the sub-compact MQB-A0-IN platform. The first vehicle to be based on this budget-friendly architecture would be a compact SUV, which will be launched in 2020. The company also said that it will achieve localization levels of up to 95 percent for the future products under the ‘INDIA 2.0’ project. Furthermore, in the second phase, the company will also explore the possibility of exporting vehicles which are built in India, endorsing the 'Make in India' initiative.
