Skoda is extending the offering for its best-selling Octavia model by adding a new member which takes the shape of an all-wheel drive vRS featuring a turbodiesel engine and a six-speed DSG transmission. The 2.0-liter TDI engine is capable of producing 184 bhp and has a maximum torque of 380 Nm available in the 1,750 to 3,250 rpm range.
The Skoda Octavia vRS TDI AWD will run the 0-100 kmph sprint in as little as 7.6 seconds and it will continue to accelerate until it reaches a top speed of 228 kmph. We are still talking about a diesel, so the fuel consumption levels are quite low as the Czech marque says their newest Octavia member will do 13.1 kmpl which translates to CO2 emissions of 129 g/km, not too bad for such a powerful compact hatchback / estate.
Like all the other Octavia vRS models, the all-wheel drive version has an XDS+ electronic differential lock and a sport-tuned suspension consisting of a front and rear multi-link arrangement. It also benefits from progressive steering along with plenty of safety and assistance systems.
Since the third generation Octavia vRS came out back in 2013, Skoda has managed to sell more than 58,000 units and with this new all-wheel drive version, the Octavia range now encompasses no less than 15 versions, starting out with the frugal GreenLine model and ending with the more punch vRS 230 which is actually the quickest Octavia they have ever made.
Skoda’s family of all-wheel drive models has now grown to nine and in the years to come additional vehicles will join the rage as the Volkswagen-owned company is expected to introduce several new crossovers which will employ an AWD arrangement. One of the cars will be a replacement for the current Yeti, but at least one other high-riding model is in the works and it will likely have a seven-seat arrangement.
