- Skoda Karoq India Launch in April 2020.
- Skoda Karoq to be sold via the CBU route.
- Skoda Karoq price could be in the range of Rs 26-28 Lakhs.
Skoda Karoq will be making its first public appearance in India at the 2020 Auto Expo on February 3 in Greater Noida. The road testing of the SUV has commenced in India as spy-shots have emerged online with a tentative launch in April 2020. Although, the test mule is being referred to as Skoda MQB A0 IN we are sure that it is indeed the Karoq SUV. Being termed as the spiritual successor to the once highly successful Skoda Yeti, it is expected to be priced in a range of Rs 26-28 Lakhs (ex. showroom, India).
Skoda India has no plans to manufacture the SUV locally at its Aurangabad production facility but it will be sold via CBU route without any homologation. The new import rules introduced by the Indian Government facilitates automakers to bring in 2500 units of a vehicle in the country without any local homologation. Skoda has adopted the same policy with the Octavia RS 245. The company might start the local production of the SUV at a later stage in favour of belligerent pricing. Skoda Karoq, unlike the Volkswagen Tiguan, is a 5-seater SUV with no long-wheelbase variant which can accommodate seven people. It will directly rival the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market.
Underpinning the same MQB modular architecture as the SEAT Ateca and Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Karoq will be positioned below the company's flagship Kodiaq SUV. Presently, it is available with several engine options which include a 1.0L TSI petrol with a top power of 113bhp, a 1.5L TSI petrol with a top power of 147bhp, a 1.6L TDI diesel with a top power of 113bhp, 2.0L TDI diesel with a top power of 147bhp and a 2.0L TDI diesel with a top power of 186bhp. The transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A 4x4 drive system is also on offer. The India-spec SUV is expected to come with the 1.5L TSI petrol engine, linked to a 7-speed DCT gearbox and an AWD system.
