Skoda Auto India has now rolled out the Octavia 1.8 Ambition, a new base petrol variant of the car at Rs 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Bookings for the new model has also been started, however the deliveries will commence from January onwards.
To bring the cost down, Skoda had to remove some key features like daytime running lights, headlight washer, front parking sensor, panoramic sunroof, side and curtain airbags, 12-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, memory setting for the wing mirrors and cruise control. Moreover, the new model gets halogen headlamps in spite of Xenons.
Though the car loses out on some important features, what remains there are 16-inch alloy wheels, an infotainment system, climate control and a multi-function display. Powering the new variant is the same 1.8-litre TSI petrol mill found in the Octavia Elegance trim, which churns out a maximum power output of 138bhp at 4500-6000rpm, while yielding 250Nm at 1500-3500rpm. The power is transmitted to front wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
