Volkswagen-owned Skoda has taken the wraps off a truly unique Superb mid-size limousine in the range-topping Laurin & Klement trim. Unlike the regular production car, this one was created in collaboration with reputable glassworks specialist PRECIOSA and benefits from a StarDust coating which basically encompasses small and bright crystals.
These have been applied onto the wheels, front and rear Skoda logos, Laurin & Klement badging and also inside on the steering wheel. This sparkling look was also applied several months ago on the Tour de France winner trophies.
The bad news is Skoda doesn’t plan on offering this finish on their flagship model, but at least you can get these wheels without the crystals. This is a 19-inch alloy wheel set known as “Phoenix” and it’s available on the higher end trims of the model. Keep in mind that India is still stuck with the second generation Superb facelift, but the all-new third-gen model will likely go on sale in our country sometime next year.
This black Skoda Superb Laurin & Klement certainly has an understated elegance and shows the depth of the company’s progress after Volkswagen bought the Czech marque back in the early 90s. It’s one of the most successful acquisitions ever made by VAG and it is getting better with each passing year as sales continue to increase from one year to the other. Their latest flagship model is based on the newest Volkswagen Passat, but it’s substantially more practical as it has a way bigger trunk and a lot more legroom for the rear passengers. Some say that even the design is better compared to its German counterpart, but in the end it’s a matter of tastes.
If you are visiting Czech Republic these days, Skoda will display the Superb Black Crystal at the Designblok 2015 starting today during the Czech Design and Fashion Week.
