Skoda launched the refreshed model of the Rapid sedan today at Rs 8.34 lakh (ex showroom, Maharashtra). This the first major update since the model first introduced in India in 2011. The Skoda Rapid has been on sale since 2011 and this is the first major update the car will receive since its launch. Just like the Superb, the new Rapid shares the company’s new bohemian crystalline design language.
Speaking of the exterior, the car gets angular headlamps with projector lighting, black grille with black vertical slats, LED daytime running lights, the newly designed bumper gets new foglamps. Inside, the new Rapid gets perforated seats, footwell lighting, a 6.5 inch infotainment system with MirrorLink, adjustable steering system, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, boot capacity of 460 litres.
The Skoda Rapid facelift will be available in both petrol and diesel variant, where the petrol unit is a 1.6-litre MPI unit that’s good to make a maximum power of 103 bhp with 153 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant gets a 1.5-litre TDI mill that can generate 108 bhp of power with 250 Nm of torque thanks to the slightly larger turbocharger that is locally sourced and has given an increase in power. The same powertrain was recently introduced in the Ameo compact sedan. For the transmission duties, a 5-speed manual will be offered in both petrol and diesel version, while the 7-speed DSG automatic will be available in the latter only.
In terms of safety, the Skoda Rapid facelift will come equipped with front dual airbags and ABS as standard features. Skoda Rapid’s key rivals are Volkswagen Vento, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The petrol variants of the Skoda Rapid Facelift are priced between Rs. 8.34 lakh to Rs. 11.46 lakh, while for the diesel versions, it starts at Rs. 9.57 lakh and goes up to Rs. 12.78 lakh (All Prices, ex showroom, Maharashtra).
