Skoda Superb has been awarded the ‘Red Dot Award’ for outstanding product design and the title of ‘Car of the Year’ in numerous European countries. The origins of Škoda’s large representative vehicles date back to the early years of automobile manufacturing. In 1907 the Laurin & Klement FF became the first 8-cylinder model in Central Europe. In the 1920s, the luxurious Skoda Hispano-Suiza, among others, was used by Czechoslovakia's first president, Tomás Garrique Masaryk; the 8-cylinder ŠKODA 860 was an impressive sight in the early 1930s. A representative Skoda model named Superb was launched for the first time in 1934: the Škoda 640 Superb. Just like the current generation, the forefather also featured trendsetting technology. The 640 SUPERB used the technological platform of the populat model, its 2.5L 6-cylinder mobilized 55 bhp. In addition, advanced independent suspension was used instead of star-brakes at the front and rear. Only around 200 vehicles left the company’s production halls.

Speaking of the current model on sale in India, it comes in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.8L TSI engine which develops 177bhp of top power and 320Nm of peak torque. They are available with both the 6-speed manual transmission and the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The diesel variants get their power from the 2.0L TDI engine. It belts out a maximum power of 175bhp and highest torque of 350Nm. The engine is linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard. Safety features on the Superb sedan include 8-airbags, rear parking sensor and camera, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic stability control (ESC), Multi-collision brake, Fatigue detection system etc. to name a few.
