The Kamiq will rival the Kia Seltos and the upcoming next-gen Hyundai Creta.
Rapid to be showcased with new BS6-compliant engines.
The Octavia RS 245 will be the fastest Skoda in India.
Mid-size SUV Karoq will also be revealed at the event next year.
Skoda India’s Director of Sales, Service and Marketing, Mr. Zac Hollis himself confirmed that the most powerful Skoda will be coming to India, in the form of a completely built unit.
This means that we will be getting the Euro-spec Octavia RS 245, which comes with a 2.0-litre TSI engine that produces 245 PS of max power, and 370 Nm peak torque and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG. However, only 200 units of the performance-spec car will be brought to India, which will also be the last hurrah for the current-gen Octavia.
Skoda’s compact SUV ‘Kamiq’ will take the centre stage at Skoda’s stall at the 2020 Auto Expo. Based on Volkswagen’s MQB A0 platform, the Kamiq will be localized in India.
Internationally, Skoda offers the Kamiq with a 1.0-litre TSI, 1.5-litre TSI and a 1.6-litre diesel engine, but Skoda will only likely offer the SUV in India with petrol or factory-fitted CNG powertrains. Upon launch, the Kamiq will compete against the likes of upcoming second-gen Hyundai Creta, also set to be launched next year, and the Kia Seltos.
The Czech automaker is set to discontinue its 1.5-litre diesel engine once BS6 norms become mandatory on April 1, 2020, and the Rapid will reportedly be getting a new 1.0-litre TSI engine rated at 115 PS/200 Nm, which will come mated to both manual and auto transmission.
The Skoda Superb is set to receive a mid-life refresh, test mules were spotted a few weeks ago. Since Skoda is parting ways with diesel powertrains in India for the time being, expect the Superb facelift to be offered with the sole 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 190 PS power, and will likely be offered with a 7-speed DSG.
The mid-size SUV segment has become one of the most popular SUV segments in the country, thanks to new launches in the form of MG Hector and Tata Harrier this year.
Now, Skoda also wants a piece of the pie and will introduce the mid-size ‘Karoq’ SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo, which will be powered by a 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine producing 150 PS power and 250 Nm torque. The expected price of the SUV is Rs 20-22 lakh (ex-showroom).
