Skoda's compact sedan is under development

Snapshot: A senior official from Skoda confirmed the development of sub-four-meter sedan

The Czech automaker, Skoda, is developing a new compact sub-four-meter sedan for the competitive markets like India. The company has not made any official announcement but in a press meet, a senior official of Skoda revealed their plan to onslaught a new model in growing compact sedan segment. Currently, the company's portfolio consists of 4 models- Rapid, Octavia, Superb and Yeti that all are countering in different segments in the country.

Although, the model is completely concealed by now but the new chopped sedan from Skoda family anticipated to be based on Fabia's platform. Along with the underpinnings from the discontinued hatch, the basic styling and other elements might be taken from its elder sibling Rapid. Skoda cars are known for their tank-like build quality and undoubtedly the new member in Czech family will also be enriched with the same inheritance.

However, above all the visual and dimensional developments, we hope it to be powered by the newly developed 1.5-litre TDI engine. The new power mill will be the resized version of 1.6-litre TDI engine that presently powers the Rapid and same motor does flawless duty under the hood of Volkswagen Vento and Polo GT TDI. The new 1.5-litre engine is already anticipated to power the 2014 Polo, that is supposed to reach the outlets around April this year, that makes it likely to power the first compact sedan from Skoda. However, the launch of the new model is totally uncertain as company officials has not shared a word related to its launch plan or its present stage of development.
