In the world of technology, where you are circumambient with smart phones and tabs, it really feels hard to carry a hard copy of a driving licence and registration. But Now, the ministry of road and transport has proposed owners of the vehicle will be allowed to carry soft or hard copies of the licences and other documents such as insurance and registration papers. These documents will considered valid for the purpose of verification by the police.
Refered as ‘DigiLocker’, one don’t have to carry the license and registration books instead can carry the soft copy of documents. The new system will launch soon in a few days by the road transport and IT ministries. And to open the account, all you need to have is an Aadhaar card along with your mobile phone number that will be linked up to the account.
DigiLocker service will come with an app that displays all the important information on a smartphone. Traffic officials will also be connected with an app based setup to verify from a central registry. As cities like Delhi and Telangana are issuing e-challans with better internet connectivity, and could could make more use of this service.the ministry has also proposed in its cabinets that applicants will have freedom to apply for registration or licence to any of the RTO in a state. Currently, the time frame for the renewal of the licence is 30 days from the date of the expiry that will be extended to one year from date of expiry.
All the Applications and the forms are being made shorter for the ease and can submit details online for the processing that will reduce the repeatition of several requirement. The focus is to make these service people friendly and to improving road safety provisions.
Though, the road safety experts said that the carrying the original licence should be still be implied as mandatory.
