Just a few days ago we reported that Bajaj has shown an Adventure Version of the Pulsar 200NS named the Pulsar 200AS and we were surprised. We have heard about the 200SS, the 400SS, even the 400CS was shown to the public in the AutoExpo 2014 while we were sure of the existence of the 150NS and the 180NS too, but the 200AS was a huge bombshell and we are already in love with it. Bring it on Bajaj we said, and it is highly likely that those mighty talented chaps at Bajaj have listen to our wishes, for the first ever spy pictures of the 200AS testing in India have arrived.
In what is a rather blur, but still a significant capture by the folks at indincars&bikes we can see the 200AS wearing heavy camouflage out in the wild and being tested. In the previously spied photo's it was clear that the AS seems almost production ready and we should expect the launch soon after Bajaj is done with the final set of testing here in India. The 200AS will also mark a significant step in establishing Bajaj as the manufacturer of motorcycles in all categories as a well laid out Adventure Dual Sport sort of bike was always missing in an otherwise jam packed Bajaj portfolio. This would also, prove that Bajaj developed the Pulsar 200NS platform to give birth to motorcycles for all, street, track and touring segments, and it might just turn out to be a masterstroke.
Expect the Pulsar 200AS to be mechanically same as that of the Pulsar 200NS, the Pulsar 200 AS would be no different from the 200 NS or the SS, we presume. It would carry the same 199.5 cc single-cylinder engine that would produce an estimated 24.5 bhp of power and 18 Nm of torque transferred to the wheel via a six-speed gearbox. Cosmetically the Pulsar 200 AS would be getting a semi-fairing and a single projector headlight for the high beam, while the low beam would continue to be a standard halogen, as observed from the spyshots.
We are not yet sure when the Pulsar 200AS will be launched, however we are guessing that according to Bajaj announcement of 6 model launches in 6 months starting with the Platina 100 last month, next up will indeed be the highly anticipated Pulsar 200SS. Then around March-April we can expect the 200AS to launch, which will complete all 200CC segment launches from Bajaj. After that , we expect the high volume 150NS and the 180NS will arrive followed by the 400SS for the festive season launch making it a coup of performance bike segment by Bajaj in 2015.
