Yamaha is about to start its functions at the their new plant at Chennai, and a reader of a Tamil publication, Motor Vikatan has posted the first ever spy shots of a Yamaha 125cc Scooter offering called the Yamaha Nozza Grande 125. Codenamed '04X' as per the publication the spied scooter may arrive on Indian showroom floors with a different name as that of Nozza Grande 125.
The Scooter which was launched in Vietnam by Yamaha Motors Vietnam in August, 2014 is powered by a new air-cooled 125 cc single-cylinder engine with fuel injection, and claims an economy of 54 km/l and is priced at 28.9 million Vietnamese Dong (INR 84,173). Although Yamaha has not announced any plans of launching the Nozza Grande in India, however, Yamaha's premium scooter offering D'elight was also spied some time back. All this makes us believe that Yamaha is indeed testing its different offerings in the 125cc scooter segment before it finalize a 125cc offering for Indian market.
Back in 2014, a media report had said that Yamaha would launch a 125 cc scooter this year, that would roll out from its new Chennai plant. Given that the scooter market in India is seeing robust volumes with an expected growth of 21 percent this fiscal, Yamaha could bolster its scooter portfolio, which currently includes only the Ray and Alpha models, both 110 cc offerings. If launched, the 125cc Nozza Grand could be an ideal contender to rival the likes of the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access and the Piaggio Vespa, though the latter caters to the lifestyle-conscious audience.
