The Indian car market is excited by a new type of vehicle ‘compact SUV’, which appears to be a cross between a saloon and full ‘Sports Utility Vehicle’. Both ‘Renault’, which has introduced their ‘Duster’ model and and ‘Ford’ which are going to unveil its ‘EcoSport’ soon are doing very well in this segment. Though ‘Hyundai India’ has strong presence in all sectors of Indian car markets, apart from a single model ‘Santa Fe’ which caters to the luxury SUV bracket, its does not have any brand which can compete with ‘Duster’ and ‘EcoSport’. Looking at the trends in the car market which show an increasing demand for ‘compact’ Sports Utility Vehicles, it is necessary for all car manufacturing units to stratagize and improve and capture the attention of the prospective buyers in this sector.
It is rumoured that Hyundai is already testing a ‘mule’ which may fill up this gap in otherwise good product line. Presently, the company was seen testing a vehicle as a ‘mule’ on the roads in Korea. Though it was difficult to find out the specific details of the ‘compact’ Sports Utility Vehicle Hyundai are going to introduce, the quess is the vehicle is likely to jave a length of four ‘metres’ long. The model may come in both petrol and diesel variants. In that case the petrol engine is likely to have one point two Litre ‘Kappa2’ engine and the diesel engine is likely to be one point four Litre ‘CRDI’. However, these are just conjectures and one may need to wait for the actual unveiling of the vehicle. Again, ‘Hyyndai’ may introduce vehicle with different ‘powertrains’ in different countries. They have already announced that they are going to introduce two new ‘hatch backs’ to the Indian markets this year or in ‘2014’. The new SUV may be introduced after these new entrants or along with these two models. One needs to wait and see what happens in the future.
