We are sure, the engineers working hard behind the closed doors of R&D at every company, look forward to the big Auto Shows every year. For there, they can use their creative minds and produce interesting and sometimes weird concepts. The companies love bringing out concepts to lure crowds into their sections at these shows every year. These are like ‘look what I have got’ bragging rights for them.
Through the years, we have seen some staggeringly gorgeous concepts from both the Car and the Motorcycle Manufacturers, drooling the crowds over with their designs and technology. Thinking of which, a few iconic concepts of previous years comes to mind like the Lamborghini Urus, the Mazda Furai, Honda VFR concept come to our minds. They were absolute stunning to behold and brought incredible attention to the companies.
Thus, when we looked at the spy shots of this strange looking Mercedes concept, we at Autoportal almost unanimously asked, what were the folks the Mercedes smoking?
Going by the images (and down with extra cups of strong coffee) we reckon, that this Mercedes might just well be an interpretation of Volkswagen’s XL-1. The profile looks to be of an extremely slippery car designed to cut through air (without making the air feel anything), but the way the cab forward design goes, and its shear size, it might just cover whole of northern hemisphere.
It might also be some sort of Fuel Cell concept or other form of an EV. Looking at those huge wheel arches it seems, they conceal fairly skinny tyres meaning an attempt towards least possible resistance to motion. The smooth shape seems to channel air towards the back of the car, which almost looks shaped like a teardrop. Lending further credence to the idea that this is an aero-intensive concept is its lack of door handles. Instead, what looks like a touch control system stands out against the silver paint.
Sadly, at this moment of time all we have is speculation for these images (courtesy our friends at autoblog.com). Feel free to give us your inputs on what you think it might just be, and in the mean time stay with us for more updates on this ‘thing’.
