The South Korean car manufacturer, now purchased by the Indian SUV and commercial vehicle manufacturing mammoth M&M, unveiled the 2014 SsangYong Korando C at the Seoul Marina Club on the island of Yeouido, South Korea. The company also made a statement that a similar version of the Korando will also be launched in India, anytime within the end of 2014.
The Korando first hit the Korean car market in the year 2011, and this new refreshed version is the second generation of the car. It is known as an ULV (Urban Leisure Vehicle), named by the company themselves. According to them the Korando is an ULV and an SUV, that means the car is suitable for any terrain. Pictures of the car reveal that the exterior is tweaked by the designers to give it that sporty aggressive look. The company also said that the car is now equipped with several advanced features.
SsangYong Korando is now advertised with a punch-line called ‘Urban Adventure’, translation, the car is a synthesis of metropolitan driving with al fresco escapade. They are using this tagline to promote the car as an SUV that can ‘chill and thrill’ at the same time. Since its launch in 2011 in the Korean market the car has done and still doing pretty well, even without the tagline, and has been a ground-breaker in the design factor of the current global SUV bazaar. The interior and the exterior are very well designed and furnished to give it a very lovely and pleasant feeling all at once.
This refreshed 5 seater, is far advanced than its rivals, it has a 7 inch touch screen display, ventilated front seats, 3D map navigation on the screen, integrated with Harman Group boom box structure. The locomotive variants will remain the same, a 2.0 liter diesel mill, wedded with a 6 speed manual and automatic transmission gearbox with two power outputs, 149 BHP and another with 175 BHP. But the engineers have given it a thorough upgrade to increase fuel efficiency and to reduce NVH levels inside the cabin and outside of it. It is also available in an AWD mode. M&M is planning to bring this 5 seater to India to rival the now existing flag holders, the Chevrolet Captiva and the Honda CR-V, the price will also be competitive, it is expected to be priced around 20 lakhs, to give it an edge over the competition.
