SsangYong has declared to debut its compact SUV concept, XLV (eXciting smart Lifestyle Vehicle), at the coming Geneva Motor Show 2014. The new XLV concept will be the company's player to play rivalry against the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. The XLV is a more polished 290mm longer version of company's XIV concept that made its debut last year. The XLV concept is powered by an innovative diesel-electric powertrain that features a 1.6-litre diesel engine in collaboration with an electric motor.

The new diesel-electric power source is expected to arm impressive mileage figures in the SUV segment alongside low level of CO2 emission. The XLV concept will be a 7-seater utility, seats will be installed in 2+2+2+1 arrangement. The unfamiliar sounding seating arrangement has two captain seats for all three rows while the single seat is somehow slides between 2nd and 3rd row. Underpinned with newly developed platform, the total length of concept is 4430mm. However, if we consider our market, the model is likely to get chopped under 4 meter in total length to meet out the competitive expectations of the Indian market. SsangYong is a South Korean automaker whose 70% share is owned by India's own SUV leader, Mahindra and Mahindra, since year 2011.

M&M and SsangYong are also working painstakingly over several other interesting projects to target the mass market in future. The company entered the Indian market with introduction of Rexton SUV, however, the model has never succeed to grab a considerable share in the SUV market. Nonetheless, the company is planning to widen its portfolio in India and next launch from the Korean breed is likely to be the oversized Rodius MUV which company has showcased at recently happened Auto Expo India.
