Bentley the luxury car maker from England, is all set to develop its first SUV (sports utility vehicle) expected to go on sale in 2016. Until now Bentley has only three models, the Continental Flying Spur, GT and Mulsanne. The SUV will be the 4th model which will be added to the minute list of variants.
This SUV is being developed as a competitor to the Porsche Cayenne, as confirmed by the company. They also stated that the 1st ever SUV will be completely built and assembled in the Crewe railway town of England. The company also quoted that, “the styling will set it apart from any other SUV on the road today and will be true to the Bentley design DNA. It will be the most luxurious and most powerful SUV on the market”. The company also said that exceptionally optimistic customer reaction to the idea of an SUV built by Bentley is one of the main reasons on why the company has started this project. The company did not provide any other information apart from that.
Bentley unconfined a rough draft of the SUV, which looks almost like the EXP 9 F concept SUV that was unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. When the EXP 9 F was unveiled, Bentley illustrated the car as a ‘Grand Touring Bentley’ that was a designer blend of the Mulsanne and Continental. This Concept SUV was created to contain a large variety of power foliage, from a 6.0 liter W12 twin turbo 600 HP (horse power) 8 speed automatic to a hybrid gas electric. But this SUV never really kicked –off production.
Until now luxury car makers have not been able to compete with the Porsche Cayenne in the SUV segment. Another luxury English car maker Rolls Royce also stated earlier this year, that they were also planning on developing an SUV, but not any time soon. The actual and first SUV of Bentley which is confirmed to go on sales in 2016, is also going head on against the leaders of the SUV segment like, The Range Rover Sport, the BMW X5 and another car that holds half the global sales of the company the Porsche Cayenne which was launched in 2002.
The main confusion on everybody’s mind is the design of the Bentley SUV, since the sketch released looks almost similar to the Concept EXP 9 F, only time will reveal whether the car will exactly be the same or a bit different.
