The parent company of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Suzuki Motor Corporation announced that it’s most loved compact car Swift has crossed cumulative worldwide sales of 50 lakh units in April 2016 since its first launch. Suzuki Swift was first launched in Japan in early 2004 and in November 2004, the compact car was launched as a world strategic model.
Currently, Suzuki Swift is being produced in seven countries, is being sold in over 140 countries and regions around the world. After the first launch, Suzuki started the production of the compact car started in Hungary, India and China and moreover, the Swift also won the 2006 RJC Car of the Year along with Japan Car of the Year Special Award ‘Most Fun’ prize in Japan for the 2005 – 2006.
“Since its launch in 2004, the Swift has brought innovative changes to the Suzuki’s car-making, earning high appraisal for its sporty, stylish, and fun to drive character, such as by winning various car of the year awards in Japan and many other countries worldwide. The Swift is truly a world strategic car, having been produced in countries including Japan, Hungary, India, China, Pakistan, and Thailand, and favoured and widely accepted globally from emerging market such as India, to developed market such as Japan and Europe, ” said the company in a statement.
In India, Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched in 2005 and still holds the 4th position in Top 10 sales chart for the month of March 2016. The Compact Car steadily increased its sales in line with the market expansion due to economic growth, such as by adding diesel variants and sedans. The Swift accounts for approximately thirty percent (approximately 430,000 units) of the annual sales units of Suzuki in India to lead its sales expansion in the Indian market. The breakdown of five million units is - India 54%, Europe 17%, Japan 10%, etc. 19%.
