Of all the cars that are showcased at the Auto Expo every year, a few stand out and steal all the limelight of the show. And for the 2018 Auto Expo, the Tamo RaceMo is one such car.
The Tamo RaceMo was first showcased by the Tata Motors at the 2017 Geneva motor show. But what makes it special this time, is the unveiling of an electric version as well.
For those completely unaware of this name, the Racemo is a sports car developed by Tata Motors under its sub-brand ‘Tamo’. It dropped jaws when showcased for the first time at the Geneva Motor show last year, but later Tata made an announcement to put a hold on its further development owing to the company’s cost-cutting initiatives. However, considering the car has been showcased again, we can be hopeful that the project is not dead yet.
The original turbo-petrol concept of RaceMo features a 1.2-litre three-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine that can generate the highest power of 190hp. The engine is mounted in the middle of the car and power is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed AMT gearbox.
On the other hand, the Electric version of Tamo RaceMo comes with a 150kW electric motor that can generate up to 203hp. Named as the Racemo +-, it can deliver a range of 350 km on a single charge to the lithium-ion battery pack. A fast charging option is also expected to be available with the car.
The Tamo RaceMo has been built on Tata’s patented MOFlex sandwich structure, which keeps the car sturdy and lightweight at the same time. The butterfly doors add to its sportiness. Besides the design, the RaceMo excels with regards to the connected technology as well. It gets features like remote monitoring, advanced navigation and predictive maintenance.
There’s no word on whether it would be making its way to the Indian roads or not. It would be interesting to see how the company plans to take this project forward.
