  • Tata Altroz is expected to launch in July 2019.
  • The premium hatchback will underpin ALFA platform.
  • It will be the second model after Harrier to be based on Impact 2.0 Design tenet.
  • The model is said to replace Bolt in Tata’s line-up.
  • It will go against Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo in the segment.

A new spy image of Tata Altroz has emerged on the inter-web featuring steel wheels, indicating the spotted variant is a base trim. While the spied variant missed out on alloy wheels, it is also likely to skip features such as LED tail lamps, semi-digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. Aside from the above features, other bits such as projector headlamps could also be left out in the entry-level trim.

Built on the newly developed Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) platform, the premium hatchback will feature Tata’s new Impact 2.0 design philosophy. At the front there will be a bold grille, sharp headlamps and beefed up bumper. Styling on the inside will be reminiscent of Nexon and Harrier. Tata Motors is expected to officially launch the hatchback in July 2019 in diesel option only, whereas a petrol engine is likely to be added later.

Under the hood, the SUV is said to receive a downsized version of 1.5-litre oil burner which powers Nexon. In terms of power, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 110 PS against 250 Nm in Nexon, albeit it could vary a tad in Altroz. It will additionally receive a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine tuned to put out 102 PS along with 140Nm torque. Both the engines will come with a standard five-speed manual unit.

Reports are rife that it could also get an optional 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine equipped with a mild-hybrid system, paired to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, Tata is yet to conform to the above details. Previewed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March, the premium hatchback is said to replace Bolt in the company’s line-up. Upon its launch, Tata Altroz will go up against Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai i20 in its segment.
