First unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the Altroz hatchback was earlier set to be introduced in mid-2019, however, Tata Motors decided to push the launch of the car to introduce it with BS6-compliant powertrains since day one.
Now, Tata has officially revealed the Altroz in India, at an event in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The premium hatch is the first car to be based on Tata’s ALFA ARC platform. In terms of size, the Altroz measures 3,990mm in length, 1,755mm in width, 1,523mm in height and has a 2,501mm long wheelbase.
In terms of design, the Altroz lives up to Tata’s Impact 2.0 design statement. Overall, the car looks sporty, while features elegant elements all around. Upfront, the car sports Tata’s signature honeycomb mesh grille, flanked by projector headlamps on each side. The LED DRLs are integrated into the fog lamp units, which are placed right below the headlamps on the front bumper.
At the rear, the hatch gets black treatment on the boot lid which bears the ‘ALTROZ’ lettering just under Tata’s logo. The stylish rear-end is topped off with its sharp LED tail lamps.
The Tata Altroz cabin sports a dual-tone black and grey theme. The car is equipped with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch TFT color multi-info display and a flat-bottom steering wheel with audio mounted controls.
Tata has equipped the Altroz with a 1.2-liter petrol engine that makes 86PS of max power and 113Nm peak torque, along with a 1.5-liter diesel engine which produces 90 PS/200 Nm. Both the units on offer are BS6-compliant.
Expect the Tata Altroz to be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom) when it launches next month. Bookings for the car can be made starting tomorrow, for a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Upon launch next year, the Altroz will rival the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.
