  • Tata Altroz will now come equipped with a dual-clutch auto transmission system.
  • The impending launch of the Tata Altroz will be in February 2020
  • The Altroz will feature BSVI-compliant petrol and diesel engine variants.

The Tata Altroz has been unveiled and is readying for a launch in February 2020. As on date, everyone knows that Tata Altroz does not have automatic transmission options yet. However, the best news is that it will get a Punch-sourced dual-clutch transmission system very soon.

Since February 2018, Tata Motors was always planning to include dual-clutch automatics in its premium cars. Tata Altroz will be the first hatchback to get it. Mayank Pareek, President of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Division, confirmed that the provision of an AMT will not make it a premium hatchback model. Tata already offers automatic transmission in its fleet vehicles such as the Tiago, Tigor, the Nano, and the Nexon. However, the DCT will be a pioneering initiative. Compared to the AMT, the DCT is expensive and highly sophisticated, as well. Users experience excellent gearshifts without compromising on the fuel economy.

The DCT will only be available with the 1.2L petrol variant, whereas the diesel version does not get one at present. The Punch-sourced 7-speed DT-1 DCT can deliver a torque of 200Nm and is ideal for compact cars. Compared to the torque converter or the standard dual-clutch systems, the DT-1 comes at a lower cost.

Though Tata has not specified a time frame for this upgrade, one can expect it to be available by October 2020. Among its peers, the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI features a dual-clutch auto system, whereas the Honda Jazz, Maruti Baleno, and the Hyundai i20 come equipped with CVT auto transmission systems.
