Tata Motors is all set to launch the Bolt hatchback in the month of January, 2015, as we reported you earlier in our exclusive story. Now, the company has opened the advance booking for the hatchback at a token price of Rs 11,000 not at its dealer outlets, but online. Currently, Tata has neither revealed the variants nor the pricing on the website of the Bolt hatchback, but has given the option of choosing between petrol and diesel guise.
Recently, Tata Motors conducted the media drives of the Bolt hatchback for journalists across the nation. It was confirmed that the hatch would be presented in both petrol and diesel guise. The petrol models would be powered by a 1.2L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged Revotron motor, which we have already seen in the Zest sedan. It would churn out a maximum power of 90 PS and peak torque of 140 Nm, while paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the diesel variants would have the conventional Fiat-sourced 1.3L, 4-cylinder, Quadrajet mill, which is good enough for 75 PS of top power and 190 Nm of highest torque. Unlike elder sibling Zest, it would be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox with the diesel guise.
Talking about the safety features of the Bolt, it would boast Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Corner Stability Control (CSC) as standard features across the top-end trim. Also, the petrol motor would have three driving modes - City, Eco and Sport to manage the car's throttle response. Inside the cabin, the equipment would be borrowed from Zest sedan such as the Harman-developed touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone-based navigation.
It would be challenging the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto EVO and Maruti Swift. It is expected to be launched in a price range of Rs 4.5-7 lakh (Ex-Showroom).
