And finally, after a lot of guesses and misses, Tata Motors will be launching the much awaited Bolt hatchback tomorrow on 22nd January 2015. The company recently started the advanced bookings for the hatchback online at a token amount of Rs 11,000. Also, the company concluded with the media drives of the hatchback recently and aiming big with the launch of the only hatchback in India with a drive mode selector.
Tata Bolt is an all-new product from the homegrown auto-major which is launched under the HorizonNext philosophy. The first vehicle to come under this series was the Tata Zest sedan, which was quite successful and surpassed Tata's own imagination. Tata Bolt underpins the same platform as the Vista hatchback, albeit modified to accommodate it.
Talking about the engines, Bolt would be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with 1.2T Revotron motor and 1.3L Multi-jet engine, respectively. The former would churn out a maximum power of 89 bhp and peak torque of 140Nm, while the latter would be generating a high power output of 73 bhp and top torque performance of 190Nm. The company has declined all the possibilities of introducing the AMT gearbox with Bolt and instead relying on its conventional 5-speed manual transmission.
While the exteriors are good, it is interiors which are unlike any other Tata car and is the talking point. Tata Motors' focus has now shifted towards all-new products to revive its fortunes in the country, rather than launching the facelift versions of its existing models. Once launched, it would be competing against the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto EVO and Maruti Swift in Indian market. Tata Bolt is expected to priced in a range of Rs. 5-7 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India).
