The production model of the upcoming SUV, Tata H5 (Tata Q501) has been spied testing on the Indian roads. Although camouflaged heavily, the spy shots reveal a lot about the upcoming SUV. Recently, the company also released a teaser of the H5 along with those of the Tata X451 hatchback and Tata Tigor Sport.
The report also suggests that the SUV may be named as Tata Harrier. It has been built on the same platform that underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the design is inspired by the company’s latest Impact Design 2.0. The teaser images of the model reveal a Y-shaped element present in the fog lamp cluster along with sleek headlamps and flanked grille.
According to the reports, the platform of Discovery Sport utilised by Tata Motors in the upcoming SUV has been slightly modified, as the aluminium components have been replaced by relatively cheaper steel elements. Despite the use of steel elements in the Tata H5, it is expected to offer a kerb weight of less than 1,650 kg. It will sport an all-new suspension setup, while the steering gear will be similar to that of Discovery Sport. The model is expected to be offered in both 5-seater and 7-seater layouts.
The all-new Tata H5 is likely to be powered by the Fiat’s 2.0-litre multijet diesel engine, which is currently under development at the Ranjangaon factory of Fiat. It is also believed that the 5-seater version will be launched first followed by the 7-seater version. The 5-seater model will get the 140 bhp version of the Fiat’s engine, while the 7-seater will get the tweaked version of the engine that produces 180 bhp of maximum power. Besides the six-speed manual gearbox, the company is looking to employ a new nine-speed transmission option for the SUV.
The new Tata H5 is all set to make its official debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. It is expected to be priced aggressively and will be up against the Jeep Compass SUV.
