Tata Motors will launch the much-awaited Harrier 5-seater SUV in India on January 23, 2019. The company will also introduce 2 all-new models this year. Tata had showcased the 45X premium hatchback concept at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The 45X concept based hatchback is all set to go on sale in India in the second quarter of 2019. What's interesting is that Tata is also working on the 7-seater variant of the Tata Harrier, which is also scheduled to be launched in India in 2019.

A latest media report claims that the 7-seater SUV will be 62 mm longer than the Harrier, but it will have the same 2,741mm wheelbase. The SUV has been spotted testing multiple times in India and on foreign soil. In terms of pricing and positioning, the report claims that the new model will be slotted above the Harrier.

The new SUV will be built on the new OMEGA platform, which is derived from Land Rover's D8 architecture. Codenamed Tata H7X, the SUV will be more powerful than the Harrier. It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that powers the Harrier. However, it will be tuned to produce higher power outputs. The engine is likely to produce 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. This model will also receive a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox as an optional. The SUV could also come with all-wheel-drive layout.

The 7-Seater Tata SUV will come with significantly different styling than that of the Harrier. It will be the brand's first 7-seater SUV to be based on the monocoque FWD platform. The brand's other models like Hexa and Safari Storme are based on the ladder frame chassis. The Tata H7X SUV will directly rival the likes of next-gen Mahindra XUV500 and the next-gen Hyundai Creta with 7-seats. Both these models will be launched in 2020.

Talking about the Harrier, the SUV will lock horns with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Nissan Kicks and others in its category. Bookings for the Harrier SUV have already been started at all Tata dealerships across the country. The Harrier also debuts the brand's new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy, which will also be seen on the upcoming 45X premium hatchback.
