  • The new Tata Harrier-based SUV might get a new name, Tata Cassini for the Indian market.

Tata Harrier, the 7-seater SUV has become a popular vehicle in India today. Tata Motors aims to use this popularity to their advantage by releasing a couple of Tata Harrier-inspired SUVs in India later this year. The much-awaited version of the Tata Harrier, the Tata Harrier Black is also due for launch. Meanwhile, the Tata Harrier gets an update in the form of a sunroof and automated gearbox.

There was speculation of the introduction of a 7-seater Tata Harrier-inspired SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo. The 7-seater Tata Buzzard was recently spotted testing at Khardung La pass in Ladakh with full camouflage. Spy images do not reveal anything of the Tata Buzzard design.

Tata Harrier Based 7-Seater SUV Spotted Testing

The Tata Buzzard exterior appears similar to the Tata Harrier except that it is taller and has an extended body to accommodate a third row of seats. The Tata Buzzard draws power from the Fiat multi-jet 2.0L Kryotec engine, but with more ability to suit the 7-seating capacity of the vehicle. The BSVI-ready engine output could deliver 173ps of power and a torque of 350nm. The Hyundai-sourced automatic transmission system is a welcome addition. The Tata Harrier does not have this facility.

The Tata Buzzard price for the base variant could be around Rs 15 lakh. The immediate competitors are the Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, and the MG Hector.

The Indian market could see the release of the Tata Buzzard, probably with a new name, Tata Cassini sometime during Diwali.
