Tata Motors has officially started accepting bookings for its most anticipated SUV, the Harrier at a refundable booking amount of Rs 30,000. The new Tata Harrier SUV is expected to make its launch in early 2019, while the delivery of the model is expected to commence later in the same month. Expect the new model to fall in the range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), given that Tata Motors shoots a product with a competitive pricing and package in it.
The new SUV is based on the OMEGA architecture, which is basically derived from Land Rover’s legendary D8 platform that also underpins Discovery Sport. The Tata Harrier will give a direct fight to the Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 etc. to name a few in the Indian market, where it will be introduced in a five-seater configuration.
With many details already surfaced online, the new Harrier would be the first SUV model to sport company’s Impact 2.0 Design language. The Tata Harrier will come power-packed with a 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine that makes 140bhpof top power, whereas the transmission duties is expected to be handled by either a 6-speed manual transmission or a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic with torque converter on the range-topping variant. We can expect, Tata Motors to surprise consumers with the introduction of an AWD version. Tata Motor claims that the engine has been tested extensively for endurance under harsh and rugged conditions, and optimized for performance by pushing it to its extremes.
