Tata Harrier SUV will soon make its launch but ahead of that, the homegrown car manufacturer has revealed it officially. Being the most anticipated product from the house of Tata Motors, the Harrier SUV has been fully revealed with its entire specification, dimensions and feature list. The car will pounce with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Renault Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks. the car will be available in four variants - XE, XM, XT and XZ. The Tata Harrier’s price is likely to fall in a range of Rs 16 lakh to 21 lakh (estimated, on-road price, India).
The new 5-seater SUV is based on the Omega Arc, which is a derivative of Land Rover’s D8 architecture and has been developed by both Tata Motors and Land Rover that means that rear row passengers need not worry for knee room and headroom. Moreover, the car has gone through a 2.2 million km of vigorous testing on the Indian soil. The Harrier SUV dimensionally measures 4,598 mm in overall length, 1,894 mm wide without wing mirrors, 1,706 mm in height (unladen) with 2,741 mm wheelbase.
Speaking of the exterior design, the Tata Harrier images speaks all about its contemporary proportions. Staying true with its word, the SUV borrowed 85 per cent design cues from its concept form. It gets xenon HID headlamps, LED daytime running lights with turn indicators, LED taillamps with a glossy black strip running through. The car would ride on 17-inch alloys and will boast a ground clearance of 205 mm. Tata Motors has made use of plastic cladding in an interesting way, running all the through the bottom of the car - front and rear bumpers, wheel arches and the doors.
Tata Harrier interior would welcome you with a signature oak brown theme – oak wood finish on the soft touch dashboard, Benecke Kaliko Oak brown upholstery, chrome finishing on the centre console, AC vents, door handles, and door pads inserts; leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob.
While in terms of features, the Harrier SUV would come packed with an 8.8 inch touchscreen display system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, 9 speaker system by JBL, 7-inch colour TFT instrument display, automatic climate control, 6 airbags, ESP featuring ABS with EBD, hill descent control, corner stability control, rollover mitigation, off-road ABS, traction control, cruise control, brake assist, electronic stability control, hill hold, etc. to name a few; fog lamp with cornering function, reverse parking camera, front seat belt reminders, auto headlamps, start/stop push button, and more.
Mechanically, the Tata Harrier would be offered in a diesel form only. The SUV will come powered with a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine and the engine is Fiat-sourced unit that also powers Jeep Compass but with a higher state of tune. The engine on the Harrier SUV makes 138 bhp of maximum power @ 3750 rpm and 350 Nm of top torque @ 1750 – 2500 rpm. As we reported earlier, the new SUV would come paired with a 6-speed manual transmission only and there is no automatic offering as of yet. Nonetheless, the engine also comes with more technology like the advanced electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger (eVGT) that would give low-end torque with easy, EGR and aftermarket treatment system keep the carbon levels in check. It also comes with three drive modes – Eco, City and Sport along with terrain response modes – Normal, Rough, and Wet.
