Tata Motors kick-started the year with the launch of its compact SUV, Harrier early this year in January. The SUV which has already set the cash registers ringing is said to receive a new Altas black colour scheme. It is reported that the new paint option will be offered with the XT, ZM and XZ variants in the carline. Currently, the Tata Harrier is available in five colour options-Calisto Copper, Airel Silver, Telesto Grey, Orcus White and Thermisto Gold.
It is to be noted that Tata Motors has not listed the ‘Altas Black’ colour option on its official website. A document from an authorized dealership showing this shade in the listing for ZM, XT and XZ trims has surfaced on the inter-web indicating at the possibility. The entry-level XE variant in Harrier’s line-up is exclusively available in the Orcus White colour option, whereas the Calisto Copper shade comes exclusively with the top-spec XT and XZ variants.
The new flagship compact SUV from Tata Motors gets an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II turbo-diesel engine called ‘Kryotec’. This unit is benefitted by an electronically controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT). In terms of output, it makes maximum power of 140 bhp against top torque of 350 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed manual gearbox, though a six-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Hyundai is reported to be introduced at a later stage.
Dimensionally, the compact SUV measures 4,598 mm in length, 1,894 mm in width and 1,706 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,741 mm which translates into a large cabin. As for ground clearance, it sits high at 205 mm, which makes it viable to tackle Indian roads. The standard cargo space is 425 litre, which can further be expanded to 810-litre after folding the rear seats completely. Prices for the Tata Harrier start from Rs 12, 69,000 which go up to Rs 16, 25,000 for the fully-loaded top-spec variant (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
