Tata Motors is all set to launch the Hexa SUV on January 16, 2017 in the country. The bookings have officially started at company dealerships at a token amount of Rs. 25,000, while the test and demo units would arrive in the first week of December. It is being learnt that the home-grown automaker has secured 250 orders for the Hexa in just a couple of days. The company recently conducted media drives of the SUV and the initial word of mouth was positive, which could once again shift the paradigm in Tata's favour in the high-end SUV segment.
Tata Hexa would be offered in three grades: XE, XM and XT. Besides the conventional manual transmission, the XM and XT trims would also be available with automatic gearbox. The SUV would come loaded with an array of contemporary safety features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Hill Control, etc. to name a few. For those asking, the Harmon Kardon touch-screen infotainment system with 10 JBL speakers would be standard across the entire variant lineup of the SUV. The Hexa would be the first product from the stable of Tata to feature a Land Rover Discovery Sport-inspired drive selector system with four modes: Comfort, Dynamic, Rough and Auto. In addition, the SUV would be presented in both the 6-seat and 7-seat configurations.
Under the hood, the Hexa would have the updated 2.2L 4-cylinder Varicor 400 diesel engine. The engine made its debut with the Safari Storme and has been retuned for the new SUV. It would develop 153bhp of top power and 400Nm of peak torque with the Hexa, while three transmission options would be on offer: a 5-speed manual (XE only), 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. A 4WD system would also be presented with the top-end XT grade. As per several reports, Tata Hexa is expected to be priced in a range of Rs. 12-16 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). It would be locking horns with the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Toyota Innova Crysta in the Indian market, with production taking place at Tata's Pune facility.
