Last year, Tata Hexa was expected to take off the shelves in order to make space for Tata Buzzard. However, in the last month, this flagship model registered a 67% decline in the sales performance in the product portfolio of the carmaker. In 2018, around 757 units were sold and this seven-seater SUV had managed to get 253 buyers in June.
The sales down of Hexa might be the reason for the introduction of Tata Harrier. Talking about the upcoming Tata Buzzard, it will be a seven-seater SUV of Hexa that will come with extra seats for the convenient accommodation of passengers.
The upcoming Tata Buzzard specs will include a 2.0 Kryotec170 engine, it is the powerful version of the engine used in Harrier. However, the Tata Hexa’ 2.2-litre VARICOR400 engine will not be able to meet up with strict emission norms.
Tata is more likely to pull the current flagship and making the space for seven-seater SUV, Buzzard. Tata Motors has issued a statement on the speculative report -
“Hexa is a product we are extremely proud of as it encapsulated the cream of our Engineering prowess and Styling skills. The love and passion of Hexa owners towards the car is invaluable for us, as it endorses the sheer multifaceted performance of the car. The recent articles on the discontinuation of the product are purely speculative and no official statement on the same has been issued by Tata Motors. However, we would like to clarify that each and every Hexa customer is important to us and we are firmly looking at expanding the HEXA brotherhood.”
Launched in Jan 2017, the company insisted that Tata Hexa is a new model and actually it is Aria’s updated version. However, some styling updates make Hexa looks butch and suave. Also, it comes equipped with a plethora of convenience and safety features.
As Buzzard is going to launch in a few months, it does not make any sense for the brand to have two seven-seater SUVs in the product portfolio. As there is a price overlap, so Tata Buzzard can easily eat the sales of slower-selling Hexa.
The upcoming Buzzard will be modern than Tata Hexa as its design is based on IMPACT 2.0 language and follows the Omega architecture of Land Rover L500. The SUV will be more spacious, making it one of the biggest offerings in this segment.
