Tata Motors has stopped production of the iconic Indicahatchback and its compact sedan version Indigo CS. Both the car shared Tata Motors’ first passenger car platform and both of them dominated the Indian roads for quite some time. For a long time, both these two models have been favourites among the fleet operators for their practicality, low maintenance cost and reliability. However, with changing market dynamics and evolution of the car design, the automaker decided to phase out these two models.

In the last financial year, Tata Motors retailed 2,583 units of the Indica hatchback and 1,756 units of the Indigo sedan. In April 2018, there was no production and sales of both the cars. Tata Indica was launched in 1998 after being displayed and garnering attraction at the Geneva Motor Show. It has been one of the popular models from the brand and generated pretty good revenue for Tata. Even after the launch of Tata Bolt, the Indica remained popular among the commercial taxi operators and it also remained the bestselling car of the brand until the Tiago hatchback was introduced.

Now, with these two aging cars discontinued, Tata Motors is emphasizing on the new products like the Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Hexa that have been very successful since their introduction.

Tata Motors is also working on some more new products that include a new midsize sedan, a premium SUV and a premium hatchback as well. The automaker showcased the concept forms of these upcoming models at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo and Geneva Motor Show.
