Tata Kite 5 has been spotted undisguised in flesh ahead of its keenly-awaited launch in the country. Being the company's third sub 4-meter sedan after the Indigo eCS and Zest, the Kite 5 sedan had its world premiere at the 2016 Auto Expo. Tata Motors is expected to launch the Kite 5 compact sedan in the festive season around October-November in India. It would be available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with the same set of engines as the Tiago hatch.
Measuring 3,995 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width, 1,535 mm in height and 2,450 mm in wheelbase, Tata Kite 5 is believed to be the most affordable sedan upon its launch in the country. The spotted mule, in all likelihood, is the range-topping variant as it features alloy rims, chrome details, Harman touchscreen infotainment system with USB, aux and Bluetooth connectivity, and reverse parking camera. One can also spot the rear centre armrest, automatic climate control and high-mounted LED stop lamp. The sedan is learnt to be coming with dual front airbags and ABS as safety features. For those asking, the Kite 5 sedan would have a best-in-class boot space of 420 litres.
Mechanically, it would be offered in both petrol and diesel guises with engines borrowed from the Tiago. The petrol variants would be powered by the all-new 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron engine which develops 83bhp of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the diesel variants would derive their power from the 1.05L 3-cylinder Revotorq engine which belts out 69bhp of top power and 140Nm of highest torque. Both the engine would be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while an AMT gearbox could be in offing as optional, albeit not at the time of launch but at a later stage. The Kite 5 wouldn't have any direct competitor currently, but in 2017 it would be challenged by the Chevrolet Beat Essentia compact sedan.
