Tata Motor is all set to launch three new cars in the country in 2015. First of the three, named Bolt, would be launched on January 20, 2015and the rest of the two would follow in the later half of the year. Being codenamed as Kite duo, one of the upcoming two cars is a compact hatchback, while the other is a compact sedan. Recently, the interiors of the Kite hatchback were snapped while it was being tested on the roads with heavy camouflage.
Tata Kite hatchback is supposed to replace the ageing Indica hatch in the country. In fact, it's said to be a re-engineered version of the versatile Indica platform. The Kite's plastic quality, inside the cabin, would certainly be improved than the Indica. Going by the spy-shot, the dashboard seems a tad higher than the Indica's and the A/C vents seems to be in rectangular shape. Also, the instrument cluster is smaller in size as compared to Indica's. Taking interior quality and designing cues from the Zest and Bolt, the Kite is expected to showcase much better cabin ambiance and features than Indica.
Tata Kite hatch would be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants would be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.2L motor (most probably Revotron, sans turbocharger), while the diesel variants would in-house a newly developed 1.05L, 3-cylinder engine which would, apparently, churn out a maximum power of 64 bhp and peak torque of 142Nm.
The Kite duo, comprising of the hatchback and sedan, would be built at Tata's production plant at Sanand, Gujrat, where Nano is also developed. The Kite hatchback is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 3.5 - 5 lakh (Ex. Showroom), while slated to launch in the second half of 2015. It would compete against the likes of Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat in India.
