Tata Motors Announces 'Samarth' program for Commercial Vehicle Drivers

Tata Motors today announced a welfare program for commercial vehicle drivers in India called 'Samarth'. The program is aimed at promoting the driving profession in the trucking community and bringing dignity to the profession. The first-of-its-kind welfare program will address four critical areas - Swasthya (Wellness Program), Sampatti (Finance Program), Surakshit (Driver on Wheel Insurance) and Siksha (Education Program). Tata Motors Samarth will be launched pan-India with an attempt to provide the program's benefits to more than five lakh drivers every year.

Powered by Oriental Insurance Company, the Surakshit Samarth program with an aim to secure the future of drivers and their families will provide accidental death and disability cover up to Rs. 10 lakh per year, per vehicle for drivers and owner drivers linked to chassis, since 2011. The Swasthya Samarth program in association with Tata AIG General Insurance Company will provide the drivers with health insurance including two complete health check-ups (that cover six health profiles / 57 tests) and Rs. 50,000 hospitalization coverage. This individual health cover can be upgraded to family cover as well. Swasthya Samarth is restricted to only new vehicles sales and the benefits will be issued by Tata AIG. Under this program, Tata AIG will also be setting up medical camps at Tata Motors' workshops. Currently, the medical camps are operational at 280 workshops and Tata aims to increase this in the coming years.

Mr Girish Wagh - President - CVBU - Tata Motors said, "True to the philosophy of connecting aspirations, we at Tata Motors are driving our efforts towards driver empowerment and welfare. Our program 'Samarth' is tailored to make the entire trucking profession dignified. We intend to cement our long-lasting relationship with our customers and their drivers to safeguard their health, ensuring overall wellbeing of their families and in the process uplift the quality of life for them."  With an aim to encourage systematic investment habit in the trucking community, Tata Motors has joined hands with ICICI Prudential and Tata Mutual Funds. ICICI Prudential and Tata Mutual Funds will offer SIPs, with a 3 year lock-in period to the drivers and they will also organize financial literacy camps for the drivers and owner drivers.

Tata Motors Samarth has also come up with Siksha Samarth program in association with Toppr. For those not in the know, Toppr is an online learning application for the students of classes 5th to 12th. The children of customers, drivers and owner-drivers in class 8th to 10th, who are eligible for Tata Motors scholarship scheme will receive one-year free subscription of Toppr. Tata Motors Samarth encapsulates all the four critical areas that impact the lives of drivers and their families. This kind of initiatives by established brands is always appreciated by the entire industry and the customers.
