Tata Motors today launched the Aria MPV in its new 2014 avatar in India. Cosmetically, the new model retains the styling from its outgoing version and the only changes are new black bezel headlights and clear lens tail lamps with a set of decals on the flanks. But major upgradation lies under its hood which is the new 2.2-litre Varicor engine that propels its elder sibling, Safari Storme also.

The engine now produces 10 PS more at 150 PS while the 320 Nm of torque starts building up from just 1500 RPM, courtesy of the new Variable geometry turbocharger that is electronically controlled for flat low-end torque to improve the drivability under traffic and city conditions. The top-end variant of the new Aria is equipped with torque-on-demand 4X4 layout.

The engineers at Tata have enhanced the performance and durability further by installing new timing belt, new replaceable cartridge-type pre-filter and retuned fuel-injection system that simultaneously made the new Aria more efficient too with mileage of 15.5 kmpl. The new Aria is loaded with a host of class-leading comfort features includes state-of-art JBL HARMAN premium sound system, In-dash satellite navigation, premium leather upholstery with three-row theatre-style flexible seating, steering mounted music and cruise control with BLUE5 connect, dual AC with automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs and keyless entry with remote integrated key.

On the safety part, the new Aria has six airbags to protect occupants from every side, darkness sensing  ‘follow me home’ headlamps' and rain-sensing wipers, ABS, EBD, ESP and Traction Control System for superior stability and vehicle control. The new Aria comes with a warranty of 3 years/100,000 kms while the Varicor unit benefits with 3 years/150,000 kms. The company has launched the new Aria in three trim levels- Pure LX at Rs. 9.95 lakh, Pleasure at Rs. 12 lakh and Pride 4×4 at Rs. 14.74 lakh (all-prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new Tata Aria, no doubt, seems a much luring package at this point of price while the safety and comfort features setting a benchmark in the segment. This time, it should give a tough competition to its nemesis Toyota Innova.
