Jayem Neo EV is primarily based on Tata Motors’ budget hatchback, Nano. Tata Motors has partnered with Jayem Automotives for developing special performance vehicles based on the latest series products. Under the pact, Tata Motors supplies Nano body shells, engine and gearbox to Jayem Automotives which is responsible for assembling the car and equipping the 48-Volt electric system that outputs 17kW of power. The powertrain is sourced from Electra EV a technology company known for developing and producing electric drive systems. Electra EV also supplies electric powertrain for Tigor EV and Tiago EV.
Interestingly, the Tata Nano-based Jayem Neo EVs do not carry Tata badge, instead, they carry Jayem branding and Neo logos. As for the visual changes, the car looks identical to the stock Nano. While Jayem Automotives will soon roll out its rendition of the Nano, Tata Motors is also expected to develop its own version of Neo in future.
As a part of the agreement, Jayem Automotives is also working on other Tata models such as Tigor and Tiago, test mules of which have been spotted near Coimbatore. The Tigor JTP and Tiago JTP were officially revealed at the Auto Expo 2018 alongside other models at the Tata pavilion. Besides, the company has already started supplying electric versions of the Tiago and Tigor to the government-owned EESL, whereas it will take some time to roll out the electric versions of these models for private use.
