Tata Nexon, the upcoming hot compact SUV which is being touted as a strong competitor to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, has created a lot of buzz before its arrival. Now the latest information coming from the company confirms that the SUV will also be getting an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) variant.
In an Interview, Tim Leverton, Chief Technology Officer of Tata Motors confirmed that an AMT variant will be introduced in the new year, or within next few months. Note that the Nexon is expected to hit the stores by September this year. It is safe to assume that only manual transmission option will be on offer at the time of launch, followed by automatic variants a couple of months later. Unlike Tiago and Zest which carry a 5-speed automated manual transmission, the Nexon is expected to get a 6-speed automated manual transmission.
Just like Tiago and Tigor, the Tata Nexon is also said to be an excellent value-for-money offering which comes with an edge over its competitors both in terms of features and designing. It will arrive with an upgraded 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine and a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine. The petrol engine can produce a maximum power of 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 170 Nm at 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. The diesel engine, on the other hand, can develop a maximum of 110 PS power at 3,750 rpm and 260 Nm torque at 1,500 to 2,750 rpm.
Despite being an affordable offering, the Nexon will be loaded with many premium features like automatic climate control system, infotainment system with support to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, start-stop button, rear AC vents, electronically adjustable ORVMs etc. The Tata Nexon price is expected to start from around Rs 7.0 Lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the base variant.
