Tata Motors has postponed the world premiere of Nexon Electric by a couple of days to December 19, 2019, in India. Earlier, the Nexon EV was scheduled to be unveiled on December 16, 2019.
Though, it is not the first instance when Tata had to change the date as firstly it was officially said to be debuting on December 15, 2019. The company hasn't said anything on the constant date changes and the subsequent delay.
It has been learned that Tata Nexon EV will initially go on sale in selected cities such as Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. The home-grown automaker has started training the dealership staff while equipping the outlets with charging infrastructure as part of the preparation for the Nexon EV launch.
The company has started teasing the all-electric SUV at its social media channels by posting a couple of small videos. As for styling, it will be based on the upcoming Nexon Facelift which will be launched by mid-2020 in the Indian market.
Mechanically, Tata Nexon Electric will be powered by a Ziptron EV engine which comes with IP67 standard certification. The claimed range for the SUV is around 300 km after being fully charged. The Ziptron powertrain, developed in-house by the company engineers, will come with a standard warranty of 8 years.
Tata Nexon EV will take on the likes of Hyundai Kona Electric and the upcoming MG ZS EV. The ZS will be launched in January 2020 with a price in excess of Rs 20 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) while the Kona is retailed at Rs 25.30 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). Expect Tata Nexon EV price to start from Rs 15 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
