Tata Motors has released the official specifications and features of the Nexon SUV, ahead of its launch in the country. Currently, the media drive of Tata's first sub-compact SUV are underway in Kochi, Kerala. First things first, Tata Nexon debuted in concept form at the 2014 Auto Expo, while the production-ready version was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. The dealers have started accpeting orders for the Nexon at a token payment of Rs. 21,000 with deliveries promised by the end of August 2017. Tata Nexon Specifications
Tata Nexon measures 3994mm in length, 1811mm in width and 1607mm in height, while having a wheelbase of 2498mm. The sub 4-meter SUV has a ground clearance of 209mm, which is nearly 9mm more than its arch rival Ford EcoSport. It would come with a fuel tank capacity of 44 litres, while the boot capacity is 350 litres which can be further extended to 690 litres by folding the rear seats.
Tata Nexon Features
Tata Nexon would flaunt projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). The SUV would also get foglamps at the front as well as rear. There would be turn indicators at the ORVMs, while it would be available in dual tone paint scheme with contrasting roof. The Nexon, accentuating the sportiness, would also get stylish roof rails and a rear defogger. Inside the cabin, there would be bucket seats at the front and 60:40 foldable cushion slip seat at the rear with adjustable head restraints. Other features include engine start-stop button, automatic climate control with rear air vents, all four power windows with auto-down with driver side, reverse parking sensors, reverse camera, front armrest with storage space, rear armrest with cupholders, 6.5-inch floating Harman ConnectNext infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & navigation. The entire variant lineup would boast of Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and dual front airbags as standard safety features.
Tata Nexon Engine & Transmission
Tata Nexon would be available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged Revotron and 1.5L 4-cylinder Revotorq engines, respectively. The former would develop maximum power of 108bhp at 5000rpm and peak torque of 170Nm between 1750-4000rpm, while the latter belts out 108bhp at 3750rpm and 260Nm between 15000-2750rpm. Both the engines would be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while AMT could be introduced at a later stage. The company has introduced first-in-segment multi-drive selector with the Nexon with three different drive modes: Eco, City and Sport.
Tata Nexon Price
Tata Nexon is locally built at the company's production facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. The prices of the SUV are expected to start around Rs. 6 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
