With the rising demand of AMT variants of the GenX Nano, Tata Motors is planning to set up the production of the AMT kits domestically. As the current GenX is equipped with an imported AMT kit, which is manufactured by an Italian company, Magneti Marelli and the company have been providing their AMT product to many Indian auto majors.
The first car of the company to roll out with an AMT kit was the Tata Zest Diesel, and then the GenX Nano came with the same tech. Introduction of the AMT tech into the entry level hatchbacks has made a new horizon of demand. The company claims that 40 percent of the total bookings for the new GenX Nano are of the AMT variant.
With such rising demand of this variant, the supply from Magneti Marelli remains unmatched and thereby a long waiting period. In order to tackle this situation, Tata Motors is planning to domestically produce AMT kits. However, this will not only meet the demand of the customers, but will also help in reducing the cost to some extent.
The company has also confirmed that the Tata Zica hatchback will be offered with the automatic kit, which is likely to be launched at the Auto Expo 2016. Tata Zica will be the first to receive locally produced AMT kit and this tech will be further extended to various products on slot.
The Tata Zica Hatchback is also confirmed to get the automatic kit and is likely to be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Zica will be the first to receive the indigenously produced AMT kit. The transmission tech will be further extended to various products of their line-up.
