Tata Q501, despite being based on the Discovery Sport, would get fresh styling and engines. Though, it would share several pivotal components with JLR's Discovery Sport, including the floor pan. The Discovery Sport is locally assembled at the British luxury marquee's production facility in Pune. It is being revealed through various media reports that Tata intends to sell 50,000 units of the Q501 SUV annually. It would also export the SUV to several international markets such as South Africa, West Asia and Indonesia. Tata Q501 is believed to be a 5-seater SUV; though information is limited as of now regarding the seating configuration. For those asking, Tata Motors is almost ready with the launch of Hexa SUV, which would lock horns with Mahindra XUV500 and Skoda Yeti.

Mechanically, the Q501 would be offered in diesel guise only with a Fiat-sourced 2.0L MultiJet II engine. The engine has a maximum power output of 170bhp, and would also be at the helm of Jeep C-Segment SUV (Jeep 551). The Jeep C-segment SUV is currently under development and has been spotted as test mule with lot of camouflage. It would be locally developed in India from 2017 with a world premiere scheduled in the same year in India. The Q501 would be available with both manual and automatic transmissions in both 2WD and 4WD guises. The new Tata SUV is expected to be priced around Rs. 23 Lakhs (Ex.
